2024 2SLGBTQQIA+ Scholarship Award

Purpose: The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to a Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and additional sexual orientations (2SLGBTQQIA+) student or ally to further their education at an accredited postsecondary institution. The scholarship is to recognize a student who is actively engaged within the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, either as a member or ally and demonstrates outstanding merit and leadership within the Calgary Board of Education. The Diversity, Equity and Human Rights Committee will consider special needs and circumstances as part of its selection process.

Eligibility: The applicant: 

(1) Must be a Grade 12 graduate in a Calgary Board of Education school in the year of application or in the year immediately preceding the year of application,

(2) Must have been accepted into a post-secondary institution for the following year. Transcripts are not required. The Diversity, Equity and Human Rights Committee acknowledges the various lived experiences of members within 2SLGBTQQIA+ community and the impact this can have on academic success.

(3) Must submit a reference letter regarding involvement and leadership in activities within the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community, either at school or in the community at large. The letter must address the qualities, character, citizenship and attributes of the individual applicant, as well as actions of support and/or advocacy.

(4) Must be registered in a first year program of a post-secondary institution as a full time student (full time as defined by the institution) by September 15 of the school year of application.

  • Your Alberta Education Student ID number
  • A valid email that is not a school email
  • A reference letter to upload
