EC NCCP Competition Development: High Performance 1 (HP1) Readiness Tool

EC's training and certification programs are being delivered in a blended learning environment, involving a combination of self-directed learning activities and tasks, live training in a virtual environment and in-person training. To be successful, you will need to be comfortable using a variety of online tools. Let's check your readiness.

In order to be recognized by Equestrian Canada(EC) as an active coach and gain access to National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) training and certification programs, coaches must obtain and maintain an EC Coach Status. Through the EC coach status program, EC completes background screening, ensures basic training in the prevention of maltreatment in sport, concussion and first aid, and verifies that there is appropriate insurance in place to protect participants and the coaches. A number of the training and evaluation activities require coach candidates to complete tasks in their daily training environment.

EC's Competition Development Certification program aims to train coaches and confirm their ability to progress athletes and equines from 3rd level to 4th level or above. To successfully engage in the training and evaluation process, you will need to either be actively coaching athletes who meet the following criteria or have the ability to work in a training environment with access to athletes and equestrians at this level.

Do you currently have access to dressage athletes who are highly proficient (consistent score of 68-70 or above) at 3rd Level with the ability to progress to 4th Level, or above  at Gold and Platinum Events?

EC's Competition Development Certification program aims to train coaches and confirm their ability to progress athletes and equines from EV 1.05 m to Preliminary or above. To successfully engage in the training and evaluation process, you will need to either be actively coaching athletes who meet the following criteria or have the ability to work in a training environment with access to athletes and equestrians at this level.

Do you currently have access to eventing athletes who are h
ighly proficient at EV 1.05m with the ability to progress to Preliminary, or above and their equine partners who are fully trained to technically execute at the Preliminary level? *This question is required.
EC's Competition Development Certification program aims to train coaches and confirm their ability to progress athletes and equines at 1.20m or above. To successfully engage in the training and evaluation process, you will need to either be actively coaching athletes who meet the following criteria or have the ability to work in a training environment with access to athletes and equestrians at this level.

Do you currently have access to jumper (including hunter & equitation) athletes who are highly proficient (consistently achieving 4 faults or less) at 1.20m (or above) at Gold and Platinum Events?


Please note that the athletes should be familiar with usual types of obstacles presented at equivalent national championship levels (uprights, oxers, simple combinations, liverpools, angle fences), and patterns such as outside track diagonals. They should also have the ability to progress to 1.20m and above and their equine partners should be fully trained to execute shoulder in, leg yield, counter canters, simple transition changes, bending lines, roll backs and perform at 1.20m (or above). *This question is required.
Do you have athletes who actively training for and competing at an equivalent level in the discipline with human athletes in one of the following stages of development: Learn to Compete, Train to Compete, Learn to Win, Train to Win?

Eligibility will be determined  on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the applicant and coach developer team.
